Tech After Dark
LiveMeet strangers that you already know.
AI conversations that capture their interests, professional life, and reason for attending the event. The AI then gives attendees a personal list of people they should talk to, and why, with a personalized icebreaker. Everyone will be able to talk to anyone because AI has already found similarities between you. Debuts at Tech After Dark, Jackson MS, my monthly cocktail-hour for MS tech.
Why I Built It
This year my mission is to build real, meaningful projects using AI that solve real problems. People not being able to connect with one another is a problem, and this is the first step I'm taking to help solve it.
Overview
Tech After Dark is an AI matchmaking platform for in-person events. Instead of a form, members onboard through a voice-guided AI conversation that captures their field, what they're working on, and what they're looking for. The AI then figures out who should meet whom at the next event, why those two specifically, and writes each pair a tailored icebreaker so the first thirty seconds aren't awkward.
How It Works
- Voice-guided AI onboarding — A real conversation, not a form. The AI asks about your field, what you're working on, what you're looking for, and why you're coming. This kind of natural voice onboarding only became technically possible recently, and it's what makes everything downstream actually work.
- Pre-event matchmaking — Before the doors open, the AI surfaces who you should meet at this event with a clear "why you two" for each match.
- Tailored icebreakers — Each match comes with a relational opening line, calibrated to both people, so meeting feels like continuing a conversation instead of starting one.
- Smart Check-In — Scan the door QR, or just let geo-location handle it. The app knows the event address — if you're there, you're checked in. Either way, you earn a stamp for the night, kept forever in your passport across every event you attend.
- Friending is in-person only — You have to be physically at the event to friend someone in the system. Friending unlocks during event hours and locks at last call. The handshake is real.
- Day-after recap — Who you met, what they're working on, one-tap connect to their socials.
What Just Became Possible
The voice-guided onboarding is the unlock. Doing this through a form is fine; doing it through a voice conversation is what gets people to actually open up about their context, their goals, and what they want from a room. Without that signal, the AI has nothing real to match on. With it, strangers walk in already knowing each other.
The First Room
Tech After Dark debuts at Tech After Dark Jackson, a monthly cocktail-hour I run for Jackson, Mississippi's tech community: software engineers, founders, designers, data folks, healthcare tech, fintech, agtech, govtech. No badges, no name tags, no slide decks. Just a room of people the AI has already paired up, with a reason to walk over.
